Give Thanks & Pass the Stuffing

Hey All! I just wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

Ah, Thanksgiving... Imagine, a day where you give thanks for killing indians by eating like a pig, watching football. dog shows & giant balloons on TV for hours on end, trampling people to death while spending every dime you own on Christmas gifts & sleeping in all day the next day... this holiday was MADE for Americans!

I pity the vegetarians.

To celebrate, here's a playlist of some of my all-time favorite Thanksgiving cartoons for you to enjoy! Whether you eat meat, veggies or tofu, have a nice holiday anyway!

Rabbit Punch

The other day, I was watching some Warner Bros. cartoons I had on my computer to pass the time. One of the cartoons I came across was Chuck Jones' Rabbit Punch (1948).

I came up to the scene where Bugs tricks the Champion into thinking he broke his leg, disguises himself as a doctor, traps him in bandages, winds his punch ( ala Popeye's "twisker" punch) & socks him.

But the animation of the punch itself took me completely by surprise.

"What the hell was THAT?"

I went back a few seconds & looked at it frame by frame. Looking at the individual frames, I couldn't believe my eyes. Hands down, this has got to be the most stylized punch animation I've ever seen.

Bugs measures up...

anticipates...

accents the anticipation...

here's the windup...

(20 inbetweens on 2's - 40 frames later)

(24 frames later) & the pitch!

WHAM!

HO-LY COW!

I love how his fist turns into an inner tube. & what great swirly dry-brush lines on that, too. Does anybody know who animated that scene? I know most Chuck Jones animators are usually easy to identify, but I forget my bearings sometimes. Maybe Ken Harris?

I have a Quicktime clip of the animation, but I don't know how to put it up here on the blog. I don't want to upload it to Youtube or through the Blogger Video service, just a link to the clip in its own separate window. John K. does it all the time, does he use a pay service? Can anyone help me out with this problem?

Questions, Questions, Questions....

"CONFOUND THOSE DOVER BOYS!!!"

Earlier today, I re-watched one of Chuck Jones' (if not all of Warner Bros.') greatest cartoons, The Dover Boys (1942). One of my all-time favorites, without a doubt.

I quickly drew, scanned & colored Dan Backslide (the former sneak of Roquefort Hall, coward, bully, cad & thief & arch-enemy of the Dover Boys) just for kicks. God, what a great & funny character! I'd also like to add that to me, Dan Backslide is probably one of Mel Blanc's crowning roles in all the cartoons he was involved in. Every line of dialogue spoken by Dan Backslide is so forced & overplayed, it never fails to make me laugh.

Here's the full cartoon, courtesy of Youtube. Enjoy!:

Chuck Jones' Hare Conditioned (1945)

No artwork today, but here's something to satisfy your animation tooth for the day.

Here's one of my top favorite Chuck Jones/Bugs Bunny/WB shorts of all time: Hare Conditioned. The ending of this cartoon always makes me laugh out loud. It's downright hilarious, especially when the characters have blue irises. Enjoy!

*For some odd reason, posting on my blog lately has been a real problem. I have no idea what happened. I tried posting this video onto my blog through Youtube, but since then there's been a heavy lag problem here. The posts take at least two hours to update edits or show up. When the loading is through, the video doesn't work & it's pretty disappointing knowing that I have this problem while some other sites seem to do it A-OK. Hopefully after this post, things will run a little smoother.*
