Disney Character Challenge

I started a fun little project for myself over on my Tumblr (which I pretty much use instead of this blog now, so if you haven't already, move your butt over there). I'm gonna draw my single favorite character from each Disney animated film in chronological order, staring with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs all the way up to Wreck-It Ralph. Why? Because I can, I will and I'm bored.

As you can probably tell, the characters are pretty "on-model", so to speak. I don't really have a set "style", unlike most of my friends. Sometimes I really envy that sometimes, because it's always great to see an artist's interpretation of another person's character. But personally, I can't draw something without it looking exactly what it's supposed to be, I don't know why. Could be some type of animator OCD or something, who knows. But the good thing about it is that it gives me a lot of great practice and is a fun challenge to pull off another person's style. Besides, when I do go out and work in the industry somewhere, it'll be a skill that will do nothing but benefit me in the long run.

Anyway, here are the first five Disney characters, all from what's considered to be Disney's "Golden Age":

Grumpy from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio (1940)

Ben Ali Gator from Fantasia (1940)

Jim Crow from Dumbo (1941)

Friend Owl from Bambi (1942)
