College Soup - Part 7

Wait... what's this?.... is it the latest part of the comic story Michael hasn't updated since November of last year? (gasp)... It IS!!! Hooray!!!
For the umpteenth time, I apologize for the EXTREME lateness of this comic. Finishing this story arc been banging around in the back of my mind since I posted the last installment 7-8 months ago. Recently, I became greatly inspired by Chris Sanders' new web-comic Kiskaloo as well as all of John Sanford's Chippy & Loopus strips, all the comics on Dumm Comics (link on bottom right), E.C. Segar's Popeye & the Floyd Gottfredson Mickey Mouse strips Thad K. posted a few weeks back.

Before continuing on, I advise you go back into the archives & re-read the first 6 pages. To make it easier for you guys, here's a link to the old strips. The first part was on September 3rd 2007, so start from there & work your way up. There are a few random articles n' bits strewn inbetween, but it'll be easy to get through it all. LINK!

I did about half the comic in color, then I realized it would probably look better in good ol' black & white, so I hid the color layer & just posted it as such. It was a real pain compiling all the images together & bordering them off. After looking over my old stuff, I can see I've definitely "improved" on my "draftsmanship" (if you can call it that). I guess my first year of college really DID pay off. The lettering, bubbles & borders were done in Photoshop, but on future strips everything will be all hand done in pencil & pen.
Without further ado, here's part 7 of For the Birds: "College Soup" (aka "Soup or Sales")

College Soup - Part 6

It's been just over 1 month since I put up the latest installment of the College Soup story. About time, right?

(READ COMIC FIRST)

Notice anything different about this comic compared to the last ones? This comic was completely drawn & colored in Photoshop! All done thanks to my brand new Wacom Intuos3 Tablet!

I know that all the fat people & background characters all look like they're from a separate universe that seems to be made up of blue marshmallow men, but I just didn't feel like drawing dozens of different fat people. It took long enough to begin with (8 1/2 hours from start to finish). From know on, I'm just going to scan in the drawings & color them. It's a lot less time consuming.

& as an added gift, here's the original layout. This was my only reference for how the comic should be drawn. See if you can compare the rough & the final to seewhat the differences are between the two.

*UPDATE*

Hey! I figured out how to superimpose pictures on top of eachother in Photoshop! Now you can see the rough & the final in one shot! Enjoy!

For the Birds - College Soup III

Here's part three of "College Soup".

Since drawing comics isn't my forte, my thought & word bubbles take over the whole panel. I gotta keep working on my layouts.

For the Birds - College Soup II

"College Soup"... that's what the story is called...enjoy!

*Update - by the way, nobody has guessed the answer to the question I posted August 25th. I'll give it one more week so any guessers could have a last chance to win the prize. Guess away!*

Stay tuned for Part III!

For the Birds via SVA

Here I am, settled down in my cozy little pad at SVA...with 6 other roommates!

Seriously, it's a real blast here. All my roommates are all swell mates & they great to be around. All the comforts of home all in one place. College life is sweet (& pretty expensive).

Here's that big surprise I promised you guys a few days back: a shiny new comic starring your favorite blog-oriented & heavily copyrighted fowl!

Unlike my last comic fiasco, I've got a majority of the story laid out already, so all I got to do is scan 'em, post 'em & finally bask in the blogger love!
Stay tuned for the second installment in the next couple of days
