"YAAAAAAA-HOO-HOO-HOO-HOOOEEEYYYY!!!"

Recognize that onomatopoeia? It's the famous "Goofy Holler"!

The Goofy Holler's debut was in the 1941 cartoon The Art of Skiing, originally recorded by a professional yodeler by the name of Hannes Schrolle. Since then, it has become a staple of the history of cartoon sound effects and voices.

Here is a video I compiled of as many Goofy Hollers I could find and identify. It's a pretty big movie to load, so be patient.

I know what some of you are thinking... "Hey, that's not the same kind of holler in that clip!" or "You forgot the one in...". I couldn't possibly have found all the hollers, especially in the more recent films (from 1980 on). If any of you know of any Goofy Hollers that I forgot to mention, let me know in the comments section & I if I can I'll try to stick it into the video and re-upload it.

*Thanks for watching, and remember to leave comments!*

*UPDATE* - an anonymous commenter just gave me the heads up about a few I missed. If possible, I'll try to splice them into the video sometime next week. Til then, enjoy the incomplete one I have up now!

Mella! Glad you liked it!

& anonymous, thanks for letting me know about the other ones. I don't have Bongo on DVD nor do they have it up on Youtube, so I don't know if I could get that particular one up, but the others I'll definitely check out & try to put them in the video sometime next week. Thanks for the heads up!

For a really obscure one, check out the Tale Spin episode, "The Road to Macadamia." It happens to be on YouTube. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58SJufZ5foE&feature=related

Go five mintues in and listen closely! Keep listening for the next minute. There's multiple hollars!

Hi! I came across this post as I was looking at your posts on the animation comparisons. The "Goofy Holler" is really funny and I'm glad someone took the time to compile the best examples including the one that started it all. Because of your post, I just recently posted on my own blog on the "Goofy Holler" which I mentioned some of the more recent ones you missed, such as "A Goofy Movie" and "Mickey, Donald, and Goofy: The Three Musketeers". I even made a link to your post on mine. Hope you'll take a look at it. My blog could use some attention.

The Holler is also used outside of Disney's work. Nickelodeon used it in 3 episodes of Rocko's Modern Life. It's also in the Street Fighter movie with VanDamme. One of Bison's minions sound off when he goes flying after an explosion.

oh man that was awesome, the last time i saw it was on home on the range and cinderella, i was laughing pretty hard, it's such a classic.

I know there's at least one instance of it on Goof Troop. They even pointed it out on a commercial.

Oddly enough, I don't think they ever used it on A Goofy Movie.

Actually, they have used the holler in "A Goofy Movie", four times, in fact! The first was the classic in the main title while the other three were newly recorded: During the roller coaster scene, as Goofy crashes through Roxanne's porch roof, and at the end of the end credits. See my post on the holler for more examples.

You forgot the 3 Rocko's Modern Life episodes "Wacky Delly", "S.W.A.K.", and "Heff in the Handbasket"!!!

CartoonSteve, in response to your query, it was just las night that I just discovered the short on YouTube. Here's the link:

My only hope is that Disney doesn't have it removed. Even so, you can always download it from iTunes, assuming that you have iTunes. Anyway, I discovered from watching the cartoon that it was near the end of the short that the classic "Goofy Holler" from 1941's "The Art of Skiing" is heard as Goofy is flung out of his house after pushing the red button on his universal remote. (No! Not the red button!) It would have been cool if Bill Farmer did the holler since he is the current voice of Goofy, but using the classic holler is a nice homage.

I don’t have Bongo on DVD nor do they have on you tube. The Goofy Holler is really funny and interesting cartoon. It is a great story when I see its title I just buy it. Such a very laughing cartoon.

The Goofy holler can be heard in "Bedknobs & Broomsticks" during the animated soccer match, when the king kicks the hyena.

Thanks so much for posting Lambert! I hadn't seen that one since I was a kid. I also used to love those park bears. Does anyone know where I can watch/buy the any cartoons with the bears in them?

i just read somewhere that it was used in the street fighter movie, the only non-animated film to use the holler.
not a memorable film by any stretch, so can't confirm, but would not be surprised!

Here's the Street Fighter Goofy Holler. It's soft, so listen close.

I've heard one in Peter Pan and I heard two in The Rescuers, have you heard one in a non Disney show called "The Powerpuff Girls"? In one of "The Powerpuff Girls", "Crazy Mixed-Up Puffs", Mojo yells the holler after saying "Curse you Powerpuff Girls!".
